Our Story
From a conviction about understanding, to an institution for the public good
Jagannath Sodh Foundation began with a simple belief: that the pursuit of understanding (Sodh) is the seed of every meaningful change — and that a public-benefit institution can turn inquiry into service.
Why we exist
Too much good intention in social work stops at activity. We wanted something more disciplined: a foundation that begins with questions worth asking, grounds them in the realities of the communities it serves, and measures whether anything actually changed.
That means working across the seams where education, heritage, knowledge, research and community development meet — not as separate programmes, but as one connected effort to understand, to teach, and to serve.
What our name means
Jagannath
“One Above All.” A reminder to hold something greater than ourselves — service, truth, and the common good — at the centre of every decision.
Sodh
“The pursuit of understanding.” Our commitment to disciplined inquiry — asking better questions before claiming answers.
Together, the name is our charter: seek understanding, nurture knowledge, and place both in the service of society.
From idea to institution
On 4 June 2026, the Foundation was incorporated as a Section 8 public-benefit company under the Companies Act, 2013. That legal form matters: it binds us to a non-profit purpose and to public accountability.
We are rooted in Joura, Morena, Madhya Pradesh — a place we know firsthand, and the natural starting point for work in education, heritage and community development across the Chambal region.
The people carrying it forward
The Foundation is governed by its Board of Directors — Dheerendra Sharma, Durgesh Parashar andUma Sharma — whose combined experience spans archaeology, heritage, education and community programmes. An advisory council is being formed as the work develops.
